Recap: Philadelphia 20 Mile Training Run

Early on Saturday morning, the City Sports on Walnut Street in Philadelphia hosted sixty-some stretching, dripping runners. In spite of the gloomy weather forecast, these athletes had gathered to join City Sports athletes on another long run. Most were determined to continue their training for the Philly Half/Marathon.  Some were just up for some hardy training.

Before they finished their run, the weather went from bad to worse. The temperature plummeted to below freezing. What started as a light rain turned into sleet. The sleet collected like marbles on the sidewalks.

Rain or shine, indeed. But our runners kept running.

They were supported by our own City Sports staff as well as some of our top vendors.  Mizuno had supplied them with Breath Thermo gloves and baselayers. Nathan sponsored a hydration stop along the way, with lots of their Catalyst sports drink and one devoted representative.

But it was our brave Philadelphia runners that made this event such a success.  As each finisher filed into our store, teeth chattering, bodies shivering, hair and clothes soaked, they looked victorious.

To those training for the Philly Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8k: the best of luck from City Sports.
