Osayi Osunde

City Sports Elite Athlete - Osayi OsundeName: Osayi Osunde

Birthplace: Nigeria

What area of fitness do you specialize in?
I specialize in Outdoor Boot Camps, Group Fitness, Sports Specific Training, Bodybuilding and NPC Training, and Functional Movement.

How did you get started in your given field?
I have been involved in fitness my entire life. I was a three sport athlete from childhood through high school then went to Villanova University and played football while I got my undergrad and masters at the university. I then had a shot to play in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers but unfortunately did not make the team.

Following that I led Team USA’s American Football team to a world championship in 2011. After my sports career was finished, I started doing Fitness modeling when I had extra time.  I received my personal training certification through ACE while I was working part time at Philadelphia Sports Clubs.

I worked at PSC for about a year before I decided to start my own fitness company called Optimum Fit USA and an innovative boot camp called “Fit Academy”. I also compete in NPC competitions at least once or twice a year.  I guess you can say fitness has been ingrained in me since I was a child and I do not see it going anywhere anytime soon.

How do you keep motivated to stay fit?
I work out because it’s my way of relaxation. For some reason exhausting myself in the gym is one of the main things that helps me with that. I also do most of my reflection in the gym. Due to two bulging discs in my lower back, having a strong core is vital for my every day living. I need to stay in constant shape for modeling opportunities and fitness competitions and I want to look and feel great all the time!

My advice I give to my clients is to set a challenging and achievable fitness goal and let that motivate you through your workouts.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to improve upon their fitness routine?
Never be afraid of change. Change in a fitness routine is one of the only things proven to drive you towards progress.  Fear only hinders you from achieving your fitness goals.

Why are you a fan of the City Sports Brand?
I have been shopping at City Sports for a long time now. It’s my go to place for all my needs when it comes to fitness apparel. City Sports is one of the few places that provides quality fitness gear at a competitive price point. And the City Sports t-shirts are awesome!

Why did you want to become an Elite Athlete?
I wanted to become an Elite Athlete to continue to expand my brand awareness and build upon my fitness network and reputation in Philadelphia. Health and wellness is extremely important to me. By being a CS Elite Athlete I get to share my passion with many people in the Philadelphia community.

What is your favorite gear to work out in?
Dri-Fit athletic apparel from Nike, Under Armour, and CS. For shoes I stick with two brands – Nike for cross training/boot camps, gym and every day wear and Brooks for running.

Anything else we should know about you?
I’m also a corporate professional while being a fitness professional. I work full time at Comcast as a recruiter supporting Comcast Business Sales. Prior to Comcast I was with Independence Blue Cross in their Human Resource Department.

While attending Villanova University I was Captain of the “09” National Champions with the Villanova Wildcats and received my undergraduate and graduate degree at the age of 21.
