We are proud to announce the launch of our new line of running and training apparel, “CS” by City Sports. What can you expect? Fashion-forward colors, technologically savvy materials, longer tops for women and much more. We recently sat down with the head of design and City Sports apparel buyer Chrissy Durden to learn more about her inspiration and what to expect from the line.
What inspired you to re-launch the CS by City Sports brand?
CS was originally created to give the City Sports customer technical performance styles at a great price, and we wanted to take that concept to the next level. We refreshed the line to better reflect our core customer’s athletic and style needs, which includes giving them trend-right colors and silhouettes.
What product benefits are you most excited about?
All of the styles are made from performance fabrics that have technical features like flatlock seams to minimize chaffing, but we’re most excited about the enhanced fit of each garment. In the development process, we spent extra time to ensure that each style performs to our athletic standards, and looks and feels great on.
As an athlete, which features or benefits are most important to you?
Subtle changes to a garment make all the difference, especially if you are going to run five miles in a piece. We focus on things like inseams, rises, the length of our tops and support of our bras so that our customers don’t have to. In fact, we’re so confident in the design and attention to detail on the entire line that we’re offering a lifetime guarantee.
There are many athletes working at City Sports. How did you incorporate them in the process?
Most people don’t realize that the athletes who work at City Sports are also our fit models, which gives a very real and personal dimension to our design. They wear test each and every garment before it goes into final production, and we incorporate their feedback into the design, construction and technology to help enhance the overall performance of the garment.
The spring colors are vibrant and fun, how did you select them?
Spring and summer are always about color, so we looked at what was trending specifically for the 2011 seasons. We then narrowed it down to colors that are bright, fast and athletic, but would also would work for a varied group of people and still translate well to next season.
What athletes or fashion icons influenced the re-launch?
Our customers – they are a continual source of inspiration for us! Our goal was to make a line that is unique to City Sports, and so much of who we are as a brand is embodied in our consumer base. For example, we are constantly inspired by the dedication of our run club athletes, and we wanted to make a line that would work as hard – and look as good! – as they do every time they hit the road.
